Ryan's 2 week check-up

I forgot to update on Thursday after Ryan's first appointment,
so here goes...

Let me start by saying I LOVE my pediatrician. You sometimes have to wait a little longer than you may want, but she is awesome and when she is in that room with us, she is all ears to us! She tells stories of her own kids and what it was like when she first brought home her second and had to deal with the little "helper" that isn't always really "helping" and she just makes me feel so much better about any struggles I may be having. She happily talked to me about things going on with Logan and gave comparison stories about her kids that not only made me feel better and competent, but had Jeff and me laughing hysterically. She only works half days now so that she can be the one to pick her kids up from school and can be the parent she needs to be in the evenings-- and I truly respect her even more for that now!! I am happy to make my appts in the morning (or see her sub in the afternoons for the unplanned ones) just to know that she is being a better mom for it!! It helps that I love her subs too... the whole office is pretty great!

Now, on to the two week check-up. He didn't need any shots this time because of HepB was given in the hospital, but they do the heal prick and have to fill these five little circles with his blood so they can run all sorts of tests. I don't remember this being too traumatic with Logan, but apparently our new boy is a "slow bleeder" (nurse's words!!). He SCREAMED for what seemed like forever... I kept looking over at Jeff with this face of "what the heck is taking so long?!?!" as I tried to just keep kissing Ryan and whispering in his ear. Well, he was such a "slow bleeder" that as she was trying to SQUEEZE the blood out onto the paper she decided that it wasn't working at all anymore and she needed to RE-PRICK him!!! I have never heard such a blood curdling scream in my life... and I was just inches away from it! My poor baby just didn't like that first appt and slept for almost 4 hours afterward before he woke to eat. Poor guy!

Everything else about the appointment went great... and I'm very thankful the pediatrician didn't do the pricking and squeezing herself or I just might not like her so much anymore! :-)

He is a healthy boy... eating great and growing fast!!
He weighed in at 8lbs 13oz and was 21 in long
He grew one inch in two weeks!!!
Usually they just look for them to be back to their birth weight at this appt and he had gained 1 1/2 pounds since birth, so she was very happy with his growth! His head still measured in at 14 in, which just seems so small to what our Logan was then.

Next appt is at the 2 month point so we'll keep you posted!
Logan goes for his 3 yr well check-up at the end of the month... can't believe it!!
