Reading update

Some of my friends and family have inquired about how the reading is going, so I thought I'd give a little update.
It's going SO well!!!

First, let me tell you that we were VERY flexible with it at the beginning, many days not doing it because I was still learning how to fit it into the schedule and didn't think I'd ever want to do it with the babies awake. If we had plans in the morning, then that day most often got skipped. After the first week, Logan went to visit Grana and Papa for a week, so we skipped 10 calendar days! He went to visit them again in March too, skipping another 10 calendar days! Like I said, we were VERY flexible!!!

Now, Logan is SO excited about what he's learning that he doesn't like to skip ONE day... often times asking to even do it on the weekends! Also, I've been able to figure out even doing it if/when one of the babies is awake, since it really doesn't take long and he totally gets the process of each step now. He is doing so well that we are also now doing two lessons a day most of the time, unless nap time is approaching and his exhaustion is too obvious for me to accept that challenge! Yes, he is 4 1/2 and still naps almost every day, going to bed early on the days he doesn't! (That's not part of the reading update but I thought I'd throw it out there!)

So, we are almost halfway through and he is READING!!!
I L.O.V.E. the way this program is set up. It introduces sounds in the order that makes the most sense, teaches short and long vowels, started introducing punctuation (past the period) around lesson 30 and includes a writing activity with EVERY lesson! And, if I didn't tell you this the first time I shared about it, the book only costs $14!!! Seriously, you cannot beat that!

This video is from today, reading the story from lesson 43

A cute little story, that does have to do with reading:

Last weekend he was riding in the car with a friend of mine and her kids. Mandy asked him, of all the things he does each week, what is his favorite activity. He replied, "When my mommy does my lessons with me." Seriously, how sweet is that? I love that boy and I love that he loves to learn. That night, when putting him to bed, I told him that I was so glad he answered Miss Mandy that way... and so matter-of-factly, he replied, "Well I love to learn. And I love when you're my teacher!" with a HUGE smile across his sweet face! God sure has blessed us with this little boy and his precious mind!

He will not be attending Preschool again next year. We're going to let him enjoy the love of reading a little bit more and maybe start a PreK homeschool program, covering little subject units like dinosaurs, oceans, planets, etc... a little test to see how I can facilitate and manage a schedule with more structured curriculum into our already busy days! Only God knows what the future holds and for right now we're just feeding him the knowledge that he is so quickly soaking up! (as we dreadfully watch and pray about what is happening to our public education system in the state of Texas!)

So, that's the update...
for those of you that were curious! :-)

Rodeo 2010

The Rodeo was the BIG thing for this visit... and with more adults than kids, we were in great shape! It was quite busy, as it was a Saturday and it was Spring Break, but we were in no rush and took our time enjoying it all! Family memories like this are oh so special to me!

This stroller is awesome... Logan can get in and out as necessary and Ryan just chills... LOVE it!
(And when I'm alone, it's for the youngest two and Logan walks!)

Loving the tram!

Papa and his boy

Waving to the cows! :-)

They were on video, from a camera in the incubator!

Conversations with Aunt Kelley (I LOVE this!!!)

I cannot believe I did not know this was here last year!
What an A.MAZ.ING part of our day... and it was FREE!!

Feed the chickens

Plant seeds

Milk the cow

Pick fruit

Adorable!

What else is so great about the rodeo? The rides, of course!!!

I don't think he liked this one at all!

Or this one...

Or this one...

Hmm.... how long until I can do this!?!?

Another great rodeo item... the FOOD!

Can we say, "Great way to wrap up a great day!" Yummo!

Heading back on the tram... shocked this kid was still awake!

Thanks Grana and Papa for such a wonderful day!

Ready for Golf?

As promised, Papa took Logan to hit balls while they were in town for Spring Break.

The driver was an Academy purchase; the wedge and putter were made (cut down) just for him by Papa!

Doing some coaching (to the coach-able toddler)

He was having fun!

After awhile, Grana, Aunt Kelley and I showed up to show our support shop at Sam Moon, and Ryan decided he'd like a turn.
"I'm supposed to throw these things, right?"

It was quite cute to see him golfing! He was so happy to have been included in Daddy and Papa's outing... let's see what happens next time they try to go without him!

Park Pics

Keeping in par with last month, I'm still a month behind on some fun that's been going on around here.

During March, the weather was beautiful and we continued to take advantage. Jeff's family came in for Spring Break and lots of fun was to be had... as you'll see over the next few posts.

We had a great McDonald's picnic at a local park!

Ryan is not usually very photogenic, so I was very pleased with these great shots!

The older monkey still LOVES a good play at a park!

It is no surprise either that Baby J loves the park too! Looking over these pics and preparing this post was so hard... there were SO MANY great shots of his precious smile as he enjoyed the swing. Can't wait to share a slideshow of his sweet face with all of you one glorious day!

Friday Funnies

Playing Guess Who with Logan:

M: Is your man bald?
L: I don't know.
M: Honey, bald means they don't have hair on their head. Does your person have hair on their head or not?
L: I know what bald means, but I can't see his head because he's wearing a hat!
Round 1 Goes to Mommy!

M: Does your man have hair on their face?
L: Yes, he has it right here (touching under his nose) but not here (touching on his chin). He has a mustache mom but not the other thing.
M: Thanks for all the extra info.
Round 2 Goes to Mommy too!

He didn't get why Jeff and I were laughing... he just thought he was being helpful!

Planning Halloween costumes for next year:

L: I'm going to be Mario and Ryan is going to be Luigi
M: That's a great idea... and J can be Toadstool
L: No mom, J is going to be one of those brown things that you jump on
In case you're wondering (as I was) they are called Goombas
