Some of my friends and family have inquired about how the reading is going, so I thought I'd give a little update.
It's going SO well!!!
First, let me tell you that we were VERY flexible with it at the beginning, many days not doing it because I was still learning how to fit it into the schedule and didn't think I'd ever want to do it with the babies awake. If we had plans in the morning, then that day most often got skipped. After the first week, Logan went to visit Grana and Papa for a week, so we skipped 10 calendar days! He went to visit them again in March too, skipping another 10 calendar days! Like I said, we were VERY flexible!!!
Now, Logan is SO excited about what he's learning that he doesn't like to skip ONE day... often times asking to even do it on the weekends! Also, I've been able to figure out even doing it if/when one of the babies is awake, since it really doesn't take long and he totally gets the process of each step now. He is doing so well that we are also now doing two lessons a day most of the time, unless nap time is approaching and his exhaustion is too obvious for me to accept that challenge! Yes, he is 4 1/2 and still naps almost every day, going to bed early on the days he doesn't! (That's not part of the reading update but I thought I'd throw it out there!)
So, we are almost halfway through and he is READING!!!
I L.O.V.E. the way this program is set up. It introduces sounds in the order that makes the most sense, teaches short and long vowels, started introducing punctuation (past the period) around lesson 30 and includes a writing activity with EVERY lesson! And, if I didn't tell you this the first time I shared about it, the book only costs $14!!! Seriously, you cannot beat that!
This video is from today, reading the story from lesson 43
A cute little story, that does have to do with reading:
Last weekend he was riding in the car with a friend of mine and her kids. Mandy asked him, of all the things he does each week, what is his favorite activity. He replied, "When my mommy does my lessons with me." Seriously, how sweet is that? I love that boy and I love that he loves to learn. That night, when putting him to bed, I told him that I was so glad he answered Miss Mandy that way... and so matter-of-factly, he replied, "Well I love to learn. And I love when you're my teacher!" with a HUGE smile across his sweet face! God sure has blessed us with this little boy and his precious mind!
He will not be attending Preschool again next year. We're going to let him enjoy the love of reading a little bit more and maybe start a PreK homeschool program, covering little subject units like dinosaurs, oceans, planets, etc... a little test to see how I can facilitate and manage a schedule with more structured curriculum into our already busy days! Only God knows what the future holds and for right now we're just feeding him the knowledge that he is so quickly soaking up! (as we dreadfully watch and pray about what is happening to our public education system in the state of Texas!)
So, that's the update...
for those of you that were curious! :-)
