He's four... though he's been saying he's four for a couple of months now, today he actually is! I'm not sure how this happened... how the sweet little baby that gave me the most sickening pregnancy ever is swimming independently and dressing up as the Hulk and Batman and telling me all the things he's going to do when he's SIX... slow down there, boy! I'm trying to take this in and handle that you're four!!!
He's so smart and is learning more and more every day. It's so amazing to me to see how different he and Logan are as he develops into learning so much each day. He writes with such FINE motor skills, NEVER scribbles and ONLY colors inside the lines... all the time! These things don't match up with his personality at all... but it's very neat to see how detail oriented he is when it comes to skill things.
His language is developing like crazy... and it's just so funny to listen to some of the things that come out of his mouth, both words and the TONE of those words. When I say tone, I'm admitting that he's really started testing the waters lately and has become a bit more trying. Although, he says "I love you mom" followed by a kiss at least 10 times a day- and those are just the random ones on top of the usual good mornings and nap and bedtime sayings. Ya gotta know I LOVE that!
Almost everything he says is "last night" (which could mean a week or month or several months ago) and "on Tuesday" (which could really mean any day). He has a thing for Tuesday... like everything cool has to happen on a Tuesday. I know this is just a stage as earlier this year, it was ALWAYS 8:41. No matter what time of day it was, he would look at his wrist (without a watch on) and say, "Hmmm... it's 8:41 mom." And one time, when Papa asked him a second time to tell him what time it was, he declared, "It's 8:41! I tell you twice!"
This summer has been such a big growth time for him...
He was in TWO weddings (one he refused to be photographed in!)
He learned how to swim independently!
He learned how to DIVE- correctly!
He learned how to play Mario on the Wii
He went tubing solo
He has declared a "say" in what he wears (or at least cares now!)
He rode his first roller coasters- arms up the WHOLE time!
He went to the waterpark for the first time and LOVED every ride!
He learned that it's apparently much more fun to be 6- because big brother got to ride more roller coasters and water slides. :-)
And he is now sharing a room with little brother!
His favorite things:
Puzzles- like REAL ones with LOTS of pieces
Candy Crush and Temple Run
Play-doh
Ms. Amber's house (his friend Adam's mom!)
Going to the park
Bubbles
Dress Up clothes
Batman and Robin
The HULK!
He loves to BE the Hulk- every time he gets undressed he acts it all out!
Dear Ryan,
I cannot believe that you are FOUR! You have blessed our life so much with your sweet voice and tender heart... and even with your "will" that is making itself more and more known with each passing stage. You are becoming so independent it's becoming fun to dream (and PRAY!) about what God is going to do with this outspoken ball of fire!
You love your brothers with all that's in you and it's such a joy to see you "care for" Joshua the way you do. You have taught him how to look for the 7 on the clock now that you two share a room and you walked him down the aisle to Bridge Kids (children's church) his first time with your arm around him and a kiss on his cheek. You always want to be with Logan and be able to do everything he does. You tell us often that when you're 5 you can play golf with daddy and when you're 6 you can ride all the good rides and go to school with Logan. I just find it precious to hear you set those goals... while at the same time I want you to STOP growing, so I don't want to think about 5 and 6!
You're definitely a mama's boy... and I'll take it! I know this won't last as one day daddy will be the one taking you golfing and doing all the cool stuff and you'll be his biggest fan! I have always cherished how you "fit" on my lap, head on shoulder, like we are a puzzle that is just meant to be that way. You're my only snuggle child so I'm holding onto it as long as I can! It's so hard to pin down what my favorite thing about you is, but if I HAD to choose, I think I'd say your laugh- it's contagious, a deep belly laugh that is yours... no one else can laugh the way you do and bring such big smiles to all around you!
This next year is going to be so fun as you start preschool, learning so much about words and reading and numbers. I look forward to starting our reading program in the winter and seeing you grow a love for books and knowledge. There is so much you're going to learn this year and I'm so excited to watch it all... if only it could be in slow motion! :-)
We love you sweet boy!
Mommy and Daddy
