My BABY is FIVE! I remember like it was yesterday... I was shopping in Target with my mom while Jeff and my dad were golfing, when God decided it was time for Logan to arrive! A few hours later we were taking in the Texas game from a hospital bed while I was giving thanks for the creation of an epidural! And then, just after midnight, Logan arrived and our lives changed forever!
It's amazing to me how much has taken place in his five years of life and how God has shaped our family since that day! When I was pregnant I used to dream about what he'd be like... hoping he'd look just like his daddy! And sure enough...
He DOES!!! Is he not a mini-Jeff or what???
His personality is a complete mix of his mom and dad... he LOVES his family, both immediate and extended and his favorite people are probably his grandparents, both sets! God has blessed this little boy with quite a brain too. He absolutely CRAVES knowledge and constantly asks, "Why?" with a true hope that mommy and daddy will have the answers that help him understand even more. Learning how to read last Spring opened up doors for his little mind that have made walking through life so much fun! He reads everything he sees, questions why signs say the things they do and has really enjoyed the ability to read to whomever will listen, most often his brothers and stuffed animals!
He's really taken to superheros lately and has chosen the Batman theme for the Big 5 party! He says he'll either be Spiderman or Superman for Halloween, whichever costume we can find in his size! He still loves Thomas and his Cars cars, but it's fun to see him getting into big boy things and separate himself from the babies. Next Saturday he will begin his first season in an organized sport and we'll find out if he loves soccer as much as his mommy does! We just love him so and are so blessed to have him as our first born, the child that stole everyone's hearts!
You'll notice in the pictures above that our sweet boy is now wearing glasses. His left eye started to fall in and cross when he would get tired or when he was focusing in activities like reading or flashcards, so knowing from experience (his daddy had this as a child) that this can come on quick and needs to be handled, we took a referral to a pediatric eye doctor and the next week his need for glasses was confirmed. We hope that the strength of the prescription can give his eye muscles the encouragement they need to get stronger without surgery, but only time will tell! He's quite precious in them and very proud of them. The ophthalmologist we see is in Tomball and I decided to make the day of getting glasses a little fun with a mommy date. After picking up the glasses and getting all the right accessories, we stopped in through historic Tomball and went into some antique stores (he actually likes shopping with mommy when it's just the two of us!) and then visited their restored train depot so Logan could see a train from 1907. The museum set up is only open on Sundays, but we walked around outside and here he is on the train. He LOVES trains, so this was a big hit!
At his five year check-up, he measured in at 43in tall and 43lbs exactly! Easy one for mommy to remember! :-)
Dear Logan,
Happy 5th Birthday sweet boy!
Today, I hope you know what a blessing you are in our lives! You are the best big brother and it is such a sweet piece of my day when I get to witness you with Ryan and J. They adore you, for good reason, and I just love that the feeling is mutual! There is so much to love about you...
The way you remember little tiny details
The way you make friends so easily
The way you love a routine and having plans
How you seek adventure and try new things
Snuggle time
Your love for Jesus
Your love for your grandparents
How you talk on the phone with such enthusiasm
How you praise your brothers for accomplishing things
Your love of learning
Your desire to serve others and help out
How outgoing you are
When you entertain your brothers
We are so thankful to God for the gift of you! He has exceeded any expectations and filled our hearts with such joy and comfort. We pray you will grow to love and serve the Lord and we know that should you be willing, He will use you and your strong spirit to do mighty, mighty things! May you always feel the love that everyone in this family has for you and know how precious and dear you are to us! We love you!
Mommy and Daddy
